Chatswood Retina Service was the first dedicated retinal practice in Sydney. It was founded in 1977 by Dr Alexander B.L. Hunyor, one of the first vitreoretinal surgeons in Sydney. In 1983 the practice moved from Help St to Archer St into the historic house Invernay. In 2010 it moved to its current location adjacent to Chatswood train station, where it occupies the entire 4th floor of the building.

There are now 14 fellowship-trained subspecialist ophthalmologists consulting in the Chatswood office, with expertise in medical retina, vitreoretinal surgery, inherited retinal diseases, uveitis, glaucoma, oculoplastics and cataract surgery. The eye surgeons are supported by a friendly team of receptionists and clinical staff who help working up patients by way of vision and pressure testing, performing diagnostic tests, and assisting with procedures.

Retinal, glaucoma and cataract surgery is performed at various public and private hospitals including Royal North Shore Hospital, Sydney Eye Hospital, Concord Repatriation General Hospital, Westmead Hospital, Liverpool Hospital, Chatswood Private Hospital, Bondi Junction Private Hospital and Macquarie University Hospital.

Intravitreal eye injections, retinal laser (including PDT), cryotherapy, and SLT/YAG laser are performed in the practice.
