For Patients

Your Appointment

Your First Appointment

Please allow around 2 hours for your first appointment. This time may be extended if extra tests, scans or procedures are needed. If you have not completed your registration details online, we will ask you to fill out a registration form on arrival.

Before seeing your ophthalmologist, an orthoptist will see you to check your vision, measure your eye pressures, and perform scans and tests. In many cases your pupils will need to be dilated and they make the vision blurry for several hours afterwards. It is therefore best not to drive for several hours after your appointment.

Occasionally we do need to fit in patients with eye emergencies. We thank you in advance for your understanding and patience if your appointment is delayed.

What to Bring to your Appointment

  • A current referral
  • Medicare card
  • Private Health insurance card
  • Pension, concession or Veteran Affairs card if applicable
  • A list of your current medications and eyedrops
  • Your glasses
  • Contact details for your GP, optometrists and other relevant specialists

Referrals

If you have a valid Australian Medicare card, a referral allows you to claim a rebate on part of the fees from Medicare. Medicare rebates are applicable for consultation fees and some tests and procedures.

A referral from a general practitioner (GP) or optometrist is valid for 12 months from the date of your appointment while a referral from a non-GP specialist is valid for only 3 months.

If you do not bring a valid referral, you may still be seen by an ophthalmologist, but will not be able to claim any rebate from Medicare.

Private Health Insurance

In Australia, private health insurance policies do not cover fees at private specialist practices. If you require surgery in a hospital, your private health fund may pay for part of the costs.

Payment

  • Payment of accounts is expected on the day of your appointment
  • You will be informed of the costs associated with your appointment by our staff
  • Informed financial consent will be provided for any extra tests or procedures
  • We accept cash, EFTPOS and credit card (Visa or Mastercard).
