About

Dr James Leong is a vitreoretinal surgeon and medical retina specialist, and completed his medical training at The University of Sydney. He graduated with honours and was awarded the Royal Australian College of Ophthalmologists Prize for Ophthalmology, in addition to the Clarence and Mabel Clark Prize in Ophthalmology. After completing a Masters of Medicine in Ophthalmic Sciences, Dr Leong undertook his specialist ophthalmology training at Sydney Eye Hospital.

Dr Leong completed two international fellowships including a Vitreoretinal Surgical Fellowship associated with the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada, and a Medical Retina Fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London, United Kingdom. He was awarded the Sydney Hospitallers Norman Rose Travelling Scholarship and the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmology (RANZCO) Study Scholarship.

He has published numerous articles in peer reviewed ophthalmic journals and authored a number of textbook chapters. He has also been involved as a sub-investigator in a number of international clinical trials.

With both medical and surgical retina expertise, Dr Leong has a particular interest in age related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein occlusions, macular holes, epiretinal membranes, and retinal detachments.

Dr James Leong places an emphasis on the patient doctor relationship, ensuring his patients have a good understanding of their condition and the latest treatment options available.
