Dr Robert Chong is a Medical Retina Specialist with expertise in age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein occlusion (RVO), and other retinal conditions. He specialises in intravitreal anti-VEGF injections (Lucentis and Eylea), photodynamic therapy (PDT), laser, and retinal laser.

Dr Chong is a Clinical Lecturer at the Sydney Medical School, University of Sydney. He runs a medical retina clinic at Sydney Eye Hospital where he teaches retinal fellows, ophthalmology registrars, and medical students. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmology (RANZCO) and a member of both the Australian and New Zealand Society of Retinal Specialists and the American Society of Retinal Specialists. Dr Chong has been an investigator for a number of clinical trials in retina.

Dr Chong completed ophthalmology training at Prince of Wales Hospital, Sydney. Thereafter, he completed two years of medical retina training at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London, and Southwest Eye Hospital, Chongqing, China. Both fellowships were supported by prestigious scholarships from RANZCO and the Australian Department of Education, Science and Training.

Dr Chong has a long involvement in working in remote communities, having volunteered in countries such as Myanmar, Fiji, and Romania. In Australia, in conjunction with the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS), he is part of the Outback Eye Service which conducts eye clinics in Bourke, NSW. There, he manages complex retinal conditions such as advanced diabetic retinopathy in Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal communities.

Dr Chong speaks Mandarin and Cantonese.
